I draw upon the similar real-life experiences and places when writing fiction. But are you sure you never killed anyone? Kidding.

Thanks! Yes, I love my little study. For 15 years I had to write at the kitchen table and then clear away all my stuff every night, which meant having to set it all up again the next day. Now I have my own space and it’s a WONDERFUL feeling, plus I can also walk away from it at the end of the working day which I’ve found makes a huuuuuuge difference.

Totally! I think we have a tendency to underestimate our own experiences, yet it’s those real-life elements that readers connect with.

Definitely, Angela – real, lived experience is the fast track to authenticity, which is something all readers want in the 2020s.

So not true. It’s our individual real-life experiences that give us the edge because they make our writing unique. Thanks for this, Lucy!
